So, eBay has crammed down the throats of eBay Motors Parts and Accessories sellers a mandatory return policy that allows buyers to return anything within 30 days for a refund with the seller paying for the return label. We at first immediately put our eBay Store on Vacation setting so as not to sell anything that may result in a return. Our parts are sensitive and cannot be resold if returned. We thought this was the only solution to not having to take returns but we were wrong.
Not all eBay buyers are bad. In fact the majority are good so what we decided to do was to raise the price on everything in our eBay store (all 951 items) by $20. This will cover the expense incurred by having to pay for return shipping and the lost parts as we will have to throw them all away. Unfortunately, the good customers will now have to pay for the bad customers. Of course we will probably sell less but less is better than nothing and we will not incur the expenses we did.
This is just an experiment. If we get more returns than not we will have to discontinue selling on eBay but if the majority of the buyers keep their items then the experiment will have worked. We will keep you posted.
